Simplifying the complexity of Geospatial Data Intelligence

Geospin is a rapidly growing spatial intelligence startup. LIA, their newly launched AI assistant, helps their customers make sense of their complex data patterns to inform a variety of business and civic decisions, such as placing a new park in a high foot traffic area or buying property in a briskly developing neighborhood. Geospin wanted to introduce LIA to the world with a striking new video, complete with impressive 3D animations that show off their complex data handling abilities and demonstrate the many ways LIA can be of service.

The storytelling challenge

We needed to boil down the hugely complex world of spatial intelligence into a single compact and convincing video. So we thought, who better to help simplify things than the AI assistant herself? LIA becomes the central storyteller in the video, as she shows you the world through her own data-rich eyes. Want to know where to invest in real estate? How about where to install EV charging stations? LIA takes you through a specific use case of her spatial intelligence and shows you how you can use her insights to predict and strategize.

Geospin’s vibrant brand identity contains several different bold, contrasting, and highly saturated colors. While this certainly gave us plenty to work with, it was also a unique challenge to incorporate all of them in a way that compliments the video rather than distracting from it.

Determining the style direction

As Geospin didn’t yet know their art direction, several style shots were created to determine the video’s graphic style, color usage, and overall visual direction. This allowed us to lock in a clear visual language early on, while also giving Geospin an idea of what the animations and 3D rendering would look like in the final product.

Creating the 3D world

Video drone footage, Google Maps metadata, and Geospin’s own location intelligence data all had to be mapped onto each other in order to create the intricate 3D world shown in the video. Not only that, we also had to make sure that all the various software programs involved could interact with each other on this project despite interpreting 3D data in completely different ways.

Merging all the 3D elements and data points together into one consolidated video product challenged us in ways we’ve never been challenged before. The process involved lots of troubleshooting, tedious data matching, a hell of a lot of technical skill, and several blue error screens of death. Nonetheless, our hugely talented collaborators Tiny Giants and Newframe Studio handled it all with calm composure. Ultimately, they evolved a technique that allowed us to seamlessly blend the real-life footage with our computer-generated 3D world.

"They make things happen - on time! This young team was super flexible and responded to all our wishes, even if we had very specific expectations. You get fast feedback at any time."

A celebratory crate of craft beer

Despite the challenges - or perhaps even because of them - we managed to deliver an outstanding video that boasts custom-modeled 3D elements, impressively smooth transitions, and bespoke sound effects. In fact, Geospin loved their new video so much that we sent them a whole crate of craft beer to celebrate our joint success.
